This year’s 20th Anniversary of the resumption of Bonfire Societies taking part in Carnaval du Blois was a great success. The theme of ‘The Feast’ we had covered by processing as ‘Les Rosbiffs’ , their equivalent of us calling them ‘Froggies’, went down very well with the locals, along with a lot of noise.
Next year the Carnival will be on Sunday 14th March 2027. The theme being “Through the Ages”, we should be able to sort that with the gamut of periods Bonfire Costumes cover. We’re waiting for coach, ferry and hotel prices so costs are to be confirmed, hopefully not too much more than the £175 of this year, especially if we get a lot of us going.
The coach will be leaving Lewes at 0830 for the 1030 ferry from Newhaven on Thursday 11th March 2027 and returning on the 1800 ferry from Dieppe on Monday 15th . You will need a passport that is no more than 10 years old on the day of travel to any EU country. And there must be at least three months until it expires by the time you leave the EU to return to the UK. Travel insurance and a GHIC or EHIC medical Insurance card are advised too.
We will book several rooms at the cosy Ibis Budget again, as we need the use of their ‘back garden’ to store and dip our torches and fiery pieces. If anyone would rather go to a different hotel, no problems, several do, if you book your own hotel, make sure you can cancel without cost, just in case the dates change.
There will be trips out on Friday and Saturday and lots to do and see in Blois itself.
We will have a team to organise everything.
If you are interested, please reply to dave.johnson.twinning@gmail.com or tony.lewestwinning@gmail.com
There will be a meeting at the Dorset after the Bonfire season. We will be needing a £50 deposit to book your place as we have to confirm the coach, ferry and hotel.
Please pay it to: Lewes Twinning Association, sort code 60-13-09 account number 41578252 reference Carnival and your surname.
Hope to see you all there.
Dave.
